I am looking for students (PhD, Masters, undergrads) who are passionate about research in data science. You will have chances to learn knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, time series analysis, and network science with the emphasis on solving societal challenges. Topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Theory-Guided Machine Learning in real world problems such as deep learning, multi-task learning, and meta learning for pattern learning and modeling in epidemiological domain.
  • Natural Language Processing such as pre-training and fine-tuning for information extraction using Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
  • Interpretability, Consistency, and Fairness in AI systems.

PhD Research Assistant (RA) Positions

  • An expected Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Strong programming experience (preferably with Python)
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing and communication
  • Background in machine learning and/or data mining, which is a plus
  • Mathematical foundation (e.g. probability theory, statistics, linear algebra and optimization), which is a plus
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, which is a plus
  • Publication records at top-tier conferences/journals in related fields, which is a plus

Master/Undergraduate Positions

  • Senior or above in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing and communication
  • Programming experience (preferably with Python), which is a plus
  • Background in machine learning and/or data mining, which is a plus
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, which is a plus

The Department of Data Science was established in July 2021 reflecting the significant steps taken in recent years by the College of Computing to position itself as a leader in data science education and research.
