I am looking for students — PhD, Master's, and undergraduate — who are passionate about research in data science and machine learning. You'll have the chance to work on artificial intelligence, deep learning, NLP, time series analysis, and network science with an emphasis on solving real societal challenges.

Research Topics

  • Interpretability, stability, and consistency of large-scale models.
  • Multimodal foundation models for clinical decision support.
  • Agentic AI for clinical applications .
  • Spatio-temporal graph neural networks for real-world challenges: epidemics, social science, and beyond.

Requirements

PhD Research Assistantship

RA Positions
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Strong programming experience (Python preferred)
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and communication
  • Background in machine learning and/or data mining
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Mathematical foundation in probability, statistics, linear algebra, and optimization plus
  • Experience with NLP, especially LLMs plus
  • Publication record at top-tier conferences or journals plus

Master's & Undergraduate

Project Positions
  • Junior or above in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and communication
  • Programming experience (Python preferred)
  • Background in machine learning and/or data mining plus
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) plus
  • Experience with NLP, especially LLMs plus

About the Department

The Department of Data Science was established in July 2021 reflecting NJIT's College of Computing positioning itself as a leader in data science education and research. The department offers a B.S., M.S., and three graduate-level certificate programs — giving students across all degree levels an opportunity to explore the deep underlying technologies driving data science and the broad spectrum of applications taking advantage of them.
